Prized Gem Uncirculated 1911-D Indian Quarter Eagle

1911-D $2 1/2 MS65 PCGS. When 20th Century gold enthusiasts introduce the subject of the 1911-D Quarter Eagle, what usually comes to mind first is its impressively low mintage and its absolute rarity. What is often overlooked, however, is its condition rarity beyond the obvious fact that the higher the Mint State rating the more challenging it becomes. As a Gem, acquisition of a 1911-D not only requires a substantial investment, but a great deal of patience as well.
Offered here is a truly memorable representative that would be an exciting find even if it were one of the more common Indian Quarter Eagles. The fields are nearly flawless with only the most minute abrasions present, visible only with the aid of magnification. The striking details are fully brought up in all areas except the highest feathers on the eagle's wing. The mintmark is boldly executed, often an area of deficiency on this prized issue. A soft, frosted sheen is made even more impressive by the lack of surface marks. Expect keen interest in this classic Indian Quarter Eagle rarity. Population: 13 in 65, 4 finer (6/05).(#7943)(Registry values: N10218) (NGC ID# 7KR7, PCGS# 7943)
