    Description

    1911-D Strong D Quarter Eagle, MS62
    Rich Orange-Gold Surfaces

1911-D $2 1/2 Strong D MS62 PCGS Secure. CAC. Even a quick glance at the mintage figures and prices in the current (2014) Guide Book will point up the oddity that is the 1911-D quarter eagle. Every other issue shows a mintage solidly in the six-figure range, yet the 1911-D stands out as a five-figure production of 55,680 pieces. And while the current 2014 Guide Book gives prices for VF20 and MS60 examples of $350 and $450, respectively, for every other issue in the series, the 1911-D is priced at $2,850 and $10,000 in those same grades. In other words, the mintage of the 1911-D is roughly one-tenth that of every other series issue, while the retail prices are from eight to 22 times greater in the VF20-MS60 grade range.

For some collectors, the MS60 grade is a minimum requirement for the acquisition of a 1911-D, yet others find that examples in the AU grade range fit nicely into an overall Mint State collection. This is a solid Mint State piece that displays rich orange-gold mint luster.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 7KR7, PCGS# 7943)
