Description

1911-D Quarter Eagle, MS62
Strong Mintmark

1911-D $2 1/2 Strong D MS62 PCGS. Both the 1911-D quarter eagle and 1911-D half eagle are low-mintage rarities, the former produced to the extent of 55,680 coins while the latter saw an emission of 72,500 pieces. But in terms of collecting complete sets of Indian Head quarter eagles and half eagles, the resemblance ends quickly. Collectors seeking to obtain the 1911-D quarter eagle know that the other issues are readily obtainable. Yet those bold enough to try to complete an Indian Head half eagle series must contend not only with the 1911-D, but also coins that are conditionally even more challenging, such as all of the S-mint issues from 1912 through 1915. For those willing to take on the quarter eagle series, the key 1911-D has another complicating factor, some have a weak mintmark. This piece is specifically designated as a Strong D on the insert. The design motifs are sharply detailed throughout, the color is rich, even orange-gold, and there are no singularly mentionable abrasions.(Registry values: N4719)
