    1911-D Strong D Quarter Eagle, MS62
    Remarkably Strong Strike Overall

1911-D $2 1/2 Strong D MS62 PCGS. A recent little informal survey we did in our Permanent Auction Archives showed us that at Heritage, at least for a small sample and short duration, the average Mint State 1911-D quarter eagle draws nearly five bidders for each winner. This backs up the 1911-D's long-held notoriety as the low-mintage key to the series -- as well as the winner of the high-demand sweepstakes. While it is true that the 1914 and 1914-D quarter eagles may be "nearly as rare" or even rarer in some Mint State grades, many collectors care not a whit about those issues, unless they are actually attempting to assemble a complete set in Uncirculated. The 1914 and 1914-D lack both the demand and the cachet associated with the 1911-D as a result.
This example is strongly struck throughout, not just on the mintmark. However, the mintmark stands boldly above the reverse field. Surprisingly for the grade, there are no obvious or distracting marks on either side. The surfaces deepen to a rich reddish-orange around the margins.
