    1911-D Quarter Eagle, Outstanding MS64
    High-Quality Surfaces, Series Key

1911-D $2 1/2 Strong D MS64 PCGS. CAC. Due to the scarcity and high cost of a Gem example (often selling for more than $50,000), Choice representatives of the 1911-D quarter eagle are usually the finest accessible by most collectors. This piece is an ideal representative for the collector seeking a high-quality example without breaking the bank. Close scrutiny with a loupe fails to reveal any obtrusive abrasions, giving this piece the overall eye appeal and, arguably, the technical quality seen on many Plus-designated MS64 coins. Peach and orange-gold hues intermingle throughout yellow-gold luster on each side, while the surface texture is slightly more satin than granular -- unusual for this Denver key. The last CAC-approved MS64 PCGS coin we offered was in lot 4163 of the Dallas Signature sale (Heritage, 3/2013), which realized $24,675. We anticipate comparable interest in this piece. PCGS lists 25 finer representatives (10/15).
