    1912 Quarter Eagle, Elusive MS65
    Condition Rarity in the Series

1912 $2 1/2 MS65 PCGS. CAC. The 1912 quarter eagle issue in Gem condition is, surprisingly to series neophytes, a true conditional rarity within the series, far more elusive than some of the earlier and later P-mints in the series. It is, in fact, just behind the 1911-D and 1914-D issues (and perhaps about tied with the 1914) in terms of rarity in MS65. This Gem 1912 displays deep, mellow orange-gold color over surfaces that are remarkably free of ticks above the minuscule level; the Indian chief's cheek is markedly clean. Generous luster prevails over both sides, marking this piece as among the few finest survivors, a piece that should see spirited bidding at auction. Population: 63 in 65, 5 finer (12/13).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 7KR8, PCGS# 7944)

    Weight: 4.18 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper

With the superb catalog, a masterwork prepared by Mark Borckhardt, the sale was destined to meet all of my expectations; that it did, and then some. Be assured that I would highly recommend Heritage Auctions to any of my associates contemplating the sale
