    Description

    1912 Quarter Eagle, Exceptional MS66
    A Significant Condition Rarity

1912 $2 1/2 MS66 PCGS. The 1912 quarter eagle, coming from a mintage exceeding 600,000 pieces, is readily available in the lower Mint State grades (i.e., MS60 to MS63). Even near-Gems can be acquired with a degree of patience and searching. The certified population drops precipitously at the Gem level, however, and again in Premium Gem. Indeed, PCGS and NGC combined have seen a mere seven MS66 coins, and none finer.
Thick mint luster shows over both sides of this MS66 coin, each of which has a lovely mixture of deep reddish-gold and lilac patina. The design elements are sharply struck, with almost complete definition on the lowest feather in the headdress. While most examples of the 1912 reveal noticeable abrasions, this coin displays remarkably clean surfaces.

With the superb catalog, a masterwork prepared by Mark Borckhardt, the sale was destined to meet all of my expectations; that it did, and then some. Be assured that I would highly recommend Heritage Auctions to any of my associates contemplating the sale
