    Description

Gem 1914 Indian Two and a Half
Only Three Finer Coins at NGC

1914 $2 1/2 MS65 NGC. The 1914 Indian quarter eagle is an elusive date, with a reported mintage of 240,000 pieces. Michael Fuljenz writes in his series reference of the 1914: "The 1914 is the second rarest Indian Head [quarter eagle] in terms of its overall rarity and it is one of the rarest in high grades. Gem examples are very rare." In fact, examples graded above the Gem level can virtually be counted on one hand. Fuljenz ranks the 1914 second in rarity in the series in Gem grade, solely behind the 1914-D issue.
The present coin is a spectacular Gem, with razor-sharp definition on all design elements. Even usual problem areas, like the lower headdress feathers and the eagle's leg, are strongly impressed. The light greenish-gold surfaces have a slightly granular texture, with bright mint luster. Census: 43 in 65, 3 finer (11/11).(Registry values: N4719)
