    Elusive Gem 1914-D Quarter Eagle
Most Difficult Issue Save for 1911-D

1914-D $2 1/2 MS65 NGC. Neither the 1914 Philadelphia nor Denver quarter eagles were saved in any significant quantity, and today Gem examples of the 1914-D and the 1914 are quite elusive. The 1914-D is generally considered the second-most-difficult issue in the set in Gem grade behind the 1911-D. The present MS65 NGC example displays even reddish-gold color on the obverse, while the reverse exhibits both brighter luster and somewhat lighter color. Signs of contact are minimal: Even the Indian's cheek and the exposed fields before it show no overt contact marks, a rarity within the series regardless of issue. Census: 39 in 65, 1 finer (2/12).(Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 2899, PCGS# 7947)

    Weight: 4.18 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
