    1914-D Quarter Eagle, MS65
    Rarest Issue in Gem Quality

1914-D $2 1/2 MS65 NGC. Though the 1911-D is rightfully regarded as the key date of the Indian quarter eagle series, it is not the rarest issue at the MS65 level. That honor belongs to the 1914-D, which is twice as rare as the '11-D in Gem quality. The 1914-D is also rarer in the present grade than the low-mintage 1914 Philadelphia. It may be that collectors failed to seek high-grade examples of the '14-D prior to the 1970s, while a greater effort was made to save the better-known '11-D and '14 issues. The present peach-gold and olive-green example is exceptionally devoid of contact, and the strike is sharp aside from unimportant blending on the lowest headdress plumes. The mintmark is fully impressed.(Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 2899, PCGS# 7947)
