1914-D Quarter Eagle, An Exceptional MS65
Condition Rarity in Gem and Finer Grades

1914-D $2 1/2 MS65 NGC. The 1914-D quarter eagle can be located without too much difficulty through near-Gem, but it is the premier rarity in the series in Gem and finer condition. NGC and PCGS combined record 92 examples in MS65 and a solitary specimen finer (an NGC MS67). The issue is one of the most poorly struck, if not the worst struck, in the series. Many come with numerous marks, and others show mint-made spots.

This Gem displays coppery-gold color laced with traces of rose on its lustrous surfaces. It is much better-struck than typically seen, especially on the Indian's hair and headdress and the eagle's plumage, including that of the shoulder. The mintmark is also strong. Both sides are quite clean, lacking the marks and spots typically seen. Census: 43 in 65, 1 finer (9/15).(Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 2899, PCGS# 7947)

    Weight: 4.18 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
