    1914-D Two and a Half, Frosty MS65
    Among the Finest at PCGS

1914-D $2 1/2 MS65 PCGS. David Akers called the 1914-D "the premier rarity in the Indian Quarter Eagle series in grades at or above MS-65." In support of this assessment, the finest of seven coins in the Smithsonian Institution falls short of the Gem level at MS64, per Garrett and Guth. For perspective, the 1914-D is nearly as scarce in MS65 as most other dates in the series are in MS66. Pursuers of this popular collection usually acquire this date in MS63 or MS64, not so much because of the high cost of purchasing a Gem, but because of the difficulty associated with winning such a coin at auction. Here is a seldom seen opportunity to reach for one of the finest-known examples of this condition rarity. The piece shows bold design elements and frosty wheat-gold luster. A careful search for imperfections turns up only a few faint, scattered ticks and a small alloy spot in star 6. Population: 49 in 65, 0 finer (10/15).(Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 2899, PCGS# 7947)
