    Description

    1908 Indian Two and a Half, PR66+
    First-Year Issue, Exemplary Eye Appeal
    High-End Matte Proof

1908 $2 1/2 PR66+ PCGS Gold Shield. CAC. The first-year American matte proofs of the new 1908 gold Indian Head and Saint-Gaudens designs were a startling departure from the finish of the previous Liberty Head issues, even though the texture continued a numismatic-artistic experiment that had been seen earlier in the decade in several other countries, including France, England, and Canada.

This Premium Gem proof 1908 quarter eagle of the Pratt design looks even finer than the technical grade, displaying the usual deep khaki-gold color over fully struck surfaces throughout. A darker spot adjacent to the Indian's chin might serve as a pedigree marker, but the eye appeal is exemplary. A fine example for a first-year-of-type. Population: 19 in 66 (2 in 66+), 6 finer. CAC: 8 in 66, 2 finer (12/18).(Registry values: N7079)
