    1911 Quarter Eagle, PR66
    A Virtually Pristine Matte Finish

1911 $2 1/2 PR66 PCGS. CAC. This Premium Gem proof displays the darker matte texture that characterizes the 1911 proof quarter eagle production, in sharp contrast to the 1909 and 1910 issues which are of the flashier "Roman Finish" variety. The 1911 proofs are similar to those of 1908 which consisted of a heavy matte texture, but the 1911's finish shows less granularity, along with a slightly darker color.
The khaki-colored surfaces display a slight olive-green shade and exhibit sharply struck design elements. Both sides are devoid of mentionable contacts or of areas of "shiny spots" (that is luster breaks) that often affect the matte finish of this issue. Housed in a prior generation green label holder. Population: 12 in 66, 16 finer (12/13).(Registry values: N7079)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 289K, PCGS# 7960)

    Weight: 4.18 grams
