Description

NM Rothschild Gold Ingot, 100 Grams
Scarcer Fineness Variant

NM Rothschild Gold Ingot. 100 Grams. Similar to Ahlers-65. Nathaniel Rothschild began dealing in bullion in 1809 and the company remained in the family until it was bought by Engelhard Industries in 1967. These ingots are highly collectible, especially in Europe, but have been largely overlooked in the United States. On page 82 of his reference on Rothschild ingots, Ahlers' rough translation from the German original states:

"Together with the 50 g bars the 100 g bars are offered mainly commercial and represent the majority of commercial bars. However, there are also at the 100 g bars very rare exemplars, which are distinguished by the lower fineness of the total offer."

We consider this ingot in that rarer category with its lower fineness of 999.8. The bar is laid out in the usual manner: Rothschild hallmark / 100 GR. / smaller hallmark / 999.8. The back side is blank. The ingot measures: 21 mm x 42 mm x 5 mm. The surfaces are bright yellow-gold throughout.
