Description

James II silver Proof "Gunmoney" Shilling 1690 PR61 PCGS, KM100a, S-6582B5 (prev. S-6582DDD), Timmins-4A, Withers-19/15. Dated May 1690. Issued as emergency currency by James II upon his flight from England and his arrival in Ireland. More commonly struck in brass, some silver and gold issues were minted, perhaps destined to be presentation pieces for the most ardent supporters of the Jacobite cause of restoring James II to the English throne. This example is among the finest that we have handled, as the quality of the strike far exceeds the norm for emergency issues.

Metal: Silver
