Silver Scudo 1604, Biennial Doges, Second Phase (1541-1637), Jeronimus Viglevanus, mintmaster, dated 1604, legends reading "DVX (star) ET (star) GVB' (star) REIP' (star) GEN' (star)", in the center a stylized castle surmounted by a large crown; crosses flanking; 1604 below; reverse "+ CONRADVS (star) II (star) RO' (star) REX (star) I (star) V (star)", cross pattée, four stars in quarters. CNI III 7; Lunardi-230; Varesi-219/6. XF40 NGC, dark gray toning, details sharp and easily read, nice flan, and altogether a pleasing example of this Genoese "taler" of the Renaissance.Auction Info
