    Description

1684 Venetian Osella of 4 Zecchini

    A Masterpiece in Gold

Venice. Marcantonio Giustinian gold Osella of 4 Zecchini Anno I (1684), Paolucci II, 331, Nomisma 187 (R5), 13.84 gm, AU55 NGC. Well-struck for the issue, with the typical obverse of Saint Mark handing the flag to the Doge. The reverse is unique, with a view of the Piazza San Marco in Venice. This is an extremely rare issue, with the incredible reverse showing the Grand Canal, St. Mark's Cathedral, and the Palace of the Doges.

Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate' Partnership of Eric P Newman / B.G. Johnson.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
