Description

1939 5C Doubled Monticello, FS-801, MS67 PCGS. FIVE CENTS and MONTICELLO exhibit dramatic clockwise die doubling. Breen (1988) credits the variety discoverer as Malcolm O.E. Chell-Frost, who reported his find in the November 1942 Numismatist. This lustrous and untoned Superb Gem is virtually void of contact, though the fields exhibit an orange-peel texture consistent with long-in-use dies. Population: 11 in 67 (2 in 67+), 0 finer (4/19).
