of 1940 shows sharp, defined steps on Monticello, whereas the
Reverse of 1938 has poorly defined, mushy steps. The Reverse of
1940 variant of the 1939-S nickel is much scarcer than the Reverse
of 1938 coin from the same mint. This is a rare Superb Gem, tied
for finest at PCGS and an important Registry contender. Frosty,
pristine mint luster adorns each side, adding to the bold strike
