Description

1942-D/D Jefferson Nickel, MS65+
Full Steps, FS-501, D Over Horizontal D

1942-D 5C D Over Horizontal D, FS-501, MS65+ Full Steps PCGS. This variety is considered a cornerstone piece for Registry collectors looking to complete a Major Varieties set and is excruciatingly difficult to find in higher grades. Cherrypickers' has even gone so far as to call it "the rarest of the major Jefferson varieties in Mint State." This piece displays wonderful matte iridescent concentric color circling with original silver lust retained on Monticello. The strike is remarkably bold with no abrasions or marks that would obfuscate this example's elucidating eye appeal. This will be the finest example we have sold since 2017 and is only the second Plus-attributed piece we have offered.
