Conditionally Rare Gem 1942-D Jefferson Nickel
D Over Horizontal D

1942-D 5C D Over Horizontal D MS65 PCGS. FS-501, previously FS-027. Sharply struck with lustrous surfaces that are accented with gentle golden highlights. Other than a couple of tiny field marks, both sides are essentially blemish-free. The overmintmark feature is bold with clear evidence of the horizontal D visible without the aid of magnification. According to Bowers' Guide Book of Buffalo and Jefferson Nickels (2007): "Breen-2681. D first punched horizontally, curved side facing down, then corrected. FS-05-1942-501 as URS-11, very rare, even a worn example would be a prize." Population: 5 in 65, 0 finer (5/08). (Registry values: P1)
