Description

1945-P Nickel, Lightly Toned MS66 Full Steps
FS-801, Doubled Die Reverse, Tied for Finest

1945-P 5C Doubled Die Reverse, FS-801, MS66 Full Steps PCGS. Much of the reverse lettering is boldly die doubled on this popular variety. Examples are extremely rare in PCGS-certified Full Steps, and the present coin is tied with one other as the finest; NGC has not attributed even a single FS-801 example in Full Steps (4/16). A couple of other doubled reverses are known for this issue, but FS-801 is the most prominent and sought-after, particularly with Full Steps. This piece displays a bold strike and frosty mint luster. Toning in the central regions is light golden and it deepens to lavender and blue-gray hues near the borders. A few tiny marks do not detract. High-end examples of this Guide Book variety have become immensely sought-after for inclusion in Registry Sets.
