D Over Inverted D
One Numerically Finer Piece
1946-D 5C D Over Inverted D, FS-501, MS67 PCGS. The mintmark
was initially entered upside down, then corrected. The curve of the
first D impression is apparent west of the upright. Beautiful
caramel-gold, jade-green, and powder-blue toning endows this highly
attractive Superb Gem. A tick on the left border of the stairs
precludes a Full Steps designation. All 1946-D nickels considered
regardless of variety, PCGS shows just one numerically finer
example (9/25).Ex: Anaheim Signature (Heritage, 8/2016), lot 3550.
