Description

1953-S Jefferson Nickel, MS65
Rare Full Steps Example

1953-S 5C MS65 Full Steps PCGS. The dies for the 1953-S Jefferson nickel were overused and the issue has a reputation as a strike rarity in the series. Bernard Nagengast estimates only one example in 5,000 will grade as high as MS65, with five Full Steps on Monticello. This spectacular Gem representative exhibits well-detailed design elements overall, with a touch of the usual softness on Jefferson's hair and the windows on Monticello. Five steps on the building show full definition, however, and both sides radiate satiny mint luster, with subtle highlights of pewter-gray toning. Some flow lines are evident in the fields but no mentionable defects are noted. Population: 7 in 65 (1 in 65+) Full Steps, 1 finer (1/20).(Registry values: P1)
