Description

1953-S Nickel, MS65+ Full Steps
High-End Strike Rarity

1953-S 5C MS65+ Full Steps PCGS. The 1953-S is one of more poorly struck dates in the series, rare in any Full Steps grade. This Plus-designated Gem is just outside the Condition Census of certified Full Steps examples. Satiny luster and champagne luster comprise the eye appeal, while only some light abrasions are noted beneath a loupe. This coin adheres to the worn-die, somewhat "mushy" appearance of most 1953-S nickels, although the well-defined steps on Monticello set it apart from most examples of the date. Population: 8 in 65 (2 in 65+) Full Steps, 2 finer (2/24).(Registry values: P1)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22UR, PCGS# 84051, Greysheet# 3299)

Weight: 5.00 grams

Metal: 75% Copper, 25% Nickel
