Description

1964-D/D Nickel, MS66
FS-501, Repunched Mintmark

1964-D/D 5C Repunched Mintmark, FS-501 MS66 PCGS. PCGS has only attributed eight examples of this Cherrypickers' variety, which shows the mintmark repunched south. The repunching is clear with a loupe but may escape detection by the unaided eye. This representative is tied with one other as the finest FS-501 coin at PCGS (6/22). Each side is brilliant and satiny, with slight reflectivity discerned in the fields. A few tiny marks are not bothersome. Although the steps of Monticello exhibit the typical softness, this coin is otherwise well struck and pleasing. Population (FS-501): 2 in 66, 0 finer (6/22).
