    1971 No S Nickel, PR68 Deep Cameo
    Missing Mintmark Variety, FS-501

1971 5C No S, FS-501, PR68 Deep Cameo PCGS. It is believed that 1,655 Jefferson nickel proofs were struck in 1971 inadvertently lacking the S mintmark. The severity of the slip-up and the scarcity of the issue explain why the 1971 No S proof nickel holds the 30th position on the list of the 100 Greatest U.S. Modern Coins. This PR68 Deep Cameo specimen is totally brilliant with depthless mirrors and a thick layer of frost over the devices. Population: 17 in 68 (1 in 68+) Deep Cameo, 18 finer (5/19).(Registry values: P1)
