1964 Accented Hair Kennedy, PR68 Cameo
    In-Demand First-Year Proof Variety

1964 50C Accented Hair, FS-401, PR68 Cameo PCGS. Type One Reverse. Only the first-year proof Kennedy halves show the easily distinguished Accented Hair trait, and as such represent an important issue both for type and complete-collection purposes. Although Accented Hair proofs can still occasionally be cherrypicked from unsearched 1964 proof sets (when those can be found), few among them display sufficient contrast to garner a Cameo or Deep Cameo designation. This near-pristine silver-white, untoned Cameo PCGS example is a pleasing exception, showing a remarkable degree of contrast and an absence of distractions. These Cameo Accented Hair Kennedy halves are in strong demand. The last example we offered was lot 23124 in our Sunday Internet Coin Auction #131515 (Heritage, 4/2015), which brought $1,880.

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
