    1967 DDO FS-102 Kennedy Half, MS64
    Among the Rarest Circulation Varieties
One of Three So Graded at PCGS

1967 50C Doubled Die Obverse, FS-102, MS64 PCGS. One of the three finest certified at PCGS of this extremely rare variety (one of the most elusive in the entire Kennedy half variety set, along with the proof 1971-S DDO FS-103 and the fabled 1964 SMS), this near-Gem circulation-strike coin boasts effulgent luster on untoned surfaces and top-notch eye appeal. The FS-102's status as a 1967 circulation strike variety contributes to its great rarity, as far fewer survive in high grade than of the 1967 SMS coins. This piece exhibits the characteristic "notching" in various areas of the obverse, notably WE TRUST and the 9 in the date. Throw the PCGS Price Guide out the window on this one: This is the first auction appearance of this variety we can find, at Heritage or any other firm. Population: 3 in 64, 0 finer (7/16).

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
