Matron Head Cent Perfect Brockage of
Reverse Design on Obverse, VF35

(1817) 1C Matron Head Cent -- Reverse Brockage -- VF35 PCGS. The reverse is normal, but the obverse displays a first strike brockage of the reverse design. Likely an 1817 Newcomb-4, since there is no sign of the die crack atop the TATE in STATES invariably seen on N-5 and N-14, which also share the same reverse die. Such errors happen when a coin sticks to the obverse die and then acts as a die for the next fed flan. Toned chocolate-brown with minor marks confined to the final A in AMERICA and the field between the CE in CENT. Our EAC grade VF20.(Registry values: N208)
