XF Full First Strike Large Cent Brockage
(1829-1837) 1C Medium Letters Large Cent--Full First Strike Reverse Brockage--XF40 PCGS. Referred to as a brockage obverse on the PCGS holder, but only the reverse designs are present. This error is caused when a planchet sticks to the obverse die, then fails to eject. Another planchet (this piece) was fed in, and struck between the reverse die and the reverse of the unejected piece. A perfect brockage, since the reversed and incuse design shows no evidence of distortion or spreading. A charming golden-brown example, and the ultimate attribution challenge for the specialist.
