Description

1793 S-2 Chain Cent, Good 4
Generation 1.2 "Rattler" Holder

1793 1C Chain, AMERICA, S-2, B-2, High R.4, Good 4 PCGS. Chocolate-brown surfaces contain reddish overtones and hints of blue-steel and citrus. Microscopic porosity is present, but grade-appropriate, and abrasions fall into the same category. It is housed in a Generation 1.2 "Rattler" holder, the earliest collectible slab from PCGS. The S-2 die marriage combines the reverse used on all AMERICA Chain cents with an obverse that has a low R in LIBERTY. The Chain Cent ranks #21 in the 6th edition of 100 Greatest U.S. Coins.
From The Leo J. Clark Collection.
