Description

1793 S-10 Wreath Cent, XF40
Natural Reddish-Copper Color

1793 1C Wreath, Vine and Bars Edge, S-10, B-10, R.4, XF40 PCGS. Reddish-copper coloration coats the choice surfaces of this wonderful mid-grade Wreath Cent, with greenish hues present on the reverse as well. Wear is even, and abrasions are not found in the prime focal areas, but are relegated to old scrapes in remote regions: near the obverse rim at 9:00, near the truncation of the bust, and over the CA of AMERICA. The Wreath cent represented the second of three cent designs in the denomination's inaugural year of 1793, and had the highest production, at 63,353 of the 110,512 cents minted that year. While the emission sequence of Wreath Cents is uncertain, the present S-10 was produced at the middle to the end of the mintage of this type. It is identified by the tridirectional nature of the thin leaves above the date and the presence of leaves under AME instead of berries.
