Description

1793 Wreath Cent, Good Details
Rare Sheldon-7 Die Pair

1793 1C Wreath, Vine and Bars Edge, S-7, B-8, Low R.6 -- Tooling -- PCGS Genuine. Good Details. Die State indeterminate due to wear and suspected tooling, although Breen Die State IV is likely as the extra dot over the I in LIBERTY no longer shows; the usual arc-like break from the rim appears advanced, as the 93 can hardly be made out. This Sheldon-7 has been denied a numeric grade but survives as an acceptable example of this very rare variety. PCGS estimates a survival of only 30 examples, most which are low grade and exhibit significant surface distractions. PCGS and NGC combined have attributed only seven S-7 examples (1/26).

Slightly glossy chocolate-brown patina is displayed on the obverse, as darker steel-brown surfaces are seen on the reverse. Both sides are mostly smooth with fine-to-moderate granularity, displaying subtle hints of lavender on the high points of wear. Aside from a couple of tiny nicks on the upper left section of Liberty's hair and another between ONE and CENT, marks are relatively light. LIBERTY and the obverse portrait are worn but show full outlines. The reverse legends are strong, while ONE CENT shows heavy wear.
