Description

1793 S-8, B-13 Wreath Cent, VF30
Vine and Bars Edge, CAC

1793 1C Wreath, Vine and Bars Edge, S-8, B-13, R.3, VF30 PCGS. CAC. Breen Die State III, with a prominent diagonal crack across the bulged central reverse. The leaves over the date have a horizontal stem on this obverse die, and the reverse die has a triangular bow that is exclusive to the S-8. The late die state is responsible for the bulged reverse and the softly struck center that is bisected with a heavy diagonal die crack running from the A in STATES through the center dot ending around the second A in AMERICA.

Fields of deep olive-brown pair with chocolate-brown devices on this single-year Wreath cent type. Liberty's hair shows wear consistent with VF30 pieces, and a small planchet flaw in front of her mouth has left an oval-shaped depression that serves as a pedigree marker. Faint surface roughness and minor handling marks show as expected for an early copper coin. Trivial rim bumps are noted at the left obverse.
