1793 Wreath Cent, VF35 CAC
S-9, Vine and Bars Edge

1793 1C Wreath, Vine and Bars Edge, S-9, B-12, R.2, VF35 PCGS. CAC. The Wreath cent type was struck only between April and September 1793, during the first year of coinage at the fledgling Philadelphia Mint. Most survivors have problems such as corrosion or cleaning, but the present mid-grade representative is problem free. The mahogany-brown surfaces are surprisingly free from blemishes and verdigris. The obverse periphery displays a hint of olive-gray patina between 5:30 and 1 o'clock. A speck of aqua debris is near the right wreath stem, and a faded scuff is noted where the numerator would normally be.
