Pleasing Fine 12 Chain AMERI. Cent--A Classic in U.S. Numismatics
1793 Chain AMERI. Fine 12 PCGS. S-1, R.4. The Chain AMERI. cent was the first coin produced in the U.S. mint in 1793, and it had a very short production run before being modified by spelling out AMERICA, the chain on the reverse being later discontinued in favor of the wreath design. This is a pleasing example that has good detailing (for the grade) on all the devices. The end of the hair curls show fine detailing and the chain is well defined, as usual. The surfaces overall are a rich, chocolate-brown and non-porous. The only detracting element are several planchet flakes scattered across each side--a common occurrence on early type coins.Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 1340, GSID# 1212)
