Description

1793 Chain 1C AMERI. Fair 2. S-1, R.4. Perhaps finer than the assigned grade, as the reverse grades a full Good 4, with complete lettering and design elements. The obverse displays far less detail and the date is missing, as is normal for the variety since the date is always weak even in high grades. Most of LIBERTY is readable, however, and the entire outline of the portrait is evident. The planchet is quite choice for the grade, with smooth chocolate-brown surfaces. One obverse rim bruise is noted at 10 o'clock, as is a small obverse planchet flaw that streaks from Liberty's mouth to the rim. This example, despite its well-worn status, is a pleasing example of the variety, and should inspire interest from budget-conscious collectors.
