1793 Chain 1C AMERICA VG 8 Corroded. S-4, High R.3. As the first large cent in U.S. history and a one-year type, the 1793 Chain cent is a coveted rarity in all grades. This is a well worn example that retains relatively bold definition on the reverse. The obverse is typically weaker, but Liberty's portrait and the date are readily evident and LIBERTY is sharp. The surfaces display a rough, dark brown texture, but there are no sizeable abrasions.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 223F, PCGS# 1341, GSID# 1213)
