Description

Pleasing Fine S-3 1793 Chain Cent

1793 Chain 1C AMERICA Fine 12 PCGS. S-3, Low R.3. A smooth, pleasing mid-grade example of this ever-popular type, the first cent design to be produced for circulation in the Philadelphia Mint. The brownish-gray surfaces lighten to tannish-brown on the devices and lettering, and very few surfaces abrasions are noticed relative to the grade. Mild, uniform, microscopic porosity is visible on each side, perhaps explaining why a higher grade was not assigned. The Chain cent remains an all-time favorite of collectors, and their romance and appeal has not diminished with time.
