Description
High Grade "Shielded Hair," S-64 1794 Cent
1794 AU 50 PCGS. S-64, Low R.5. The so-called Shielded Hair variety, as the border milling on the left side of the obverse is very deep, shielding Liberty's hair from wear. On the reverse the fraction has no bar between the numerator and denominator. Close examination with a glass reveals fine porosity over each side; yet, because of the high grade one notices a dim glimmer of original luster still surrounding the obverse devices. Very well struck overall, Liberty's hair curls are boldly defined, and the well executed reverse reveals complete detailing as well.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 223M, PCGS# 1365, GSID# 717)
