1794 S-67, B-59 Cent, AU55
1794 1C Head of 1795 AU55 PCGS. S-67, B-59, R.3. Our EAC Grade AU50. Breen Die State III. The obverse is cracked with a clash mark at Liberty's profile. Glossy light olive and golden-tan surfaces host myriad trivial surfaces marks, none of any consequence. This is a lovely example and probably at the low end of the condition census. Only three Mint State examples of S-67 are recorded in the Boka census, along with a single AU55. The S-67 is the first of the Gardner Head cents, also known as the Head of 1795 cents. The modified head style is attributed to assistant engraver John Smith Gardner.Purchased at the 2008 EAC Convention; Greg Hannigan.
