Description
Sharp Looking "Shielded Hair" 1794 Cent
1794 XF 45. S-65, R.1. One of the two "Shielded Hair" varieties, distinguished by the heavy denticles around the left side of the obverse (thus "shielding" the hair) and the short stems on the reverse. This is a pleasing mid-range example that shows occasional flashes of subdued mint red around the devices on the obverse, while the reverse is uniformly brown. Generally well struck, except on the highpoint of the hair over the ear. Minimally abraded. Formerly a part of the extensive collection of a New York collector and off the market since the 1930s.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 223M, PCGS# 1366, GSID# 718)
