Ex 2000 EAC Sale, Thomas D. Reynolds 4/8/2000:121 ($3400)-COL Steven K. Ellsworth.

The 2000 Early American Coppers (EAC) Convention Sale, held in Cape Canaveral, offered nearly 800 lots from 31 consignors, reflecting the breadth and camaraderie of the organization. The catalog opened with a strong selection of colonial and state issues, including notable Connecticut, New Jersey, Vermont, Fugio, and Massachusetts coins, as well as appealing examples of Machin's Mills pieces and Washington tokens. Half cents were represented by multiple rare early varieties such as 1793 C-1 and C-3, and later dates featuring unusual die states and overstrikes, including coins struck over Talbot, Allum & Lee tokens. These lots underscored the club's dual focus on rarity and the study of die marriages, while also keeping many offerings accessible to collectors at different levels.
The large cent section was the heart of the sale, beginning with 1793 Chain and Wreath cents and continuing through a wide array of early, middle, and late dates. Highlights included scarce early die marriages, high-grade survivors of the 1790s, and important Condition Census examples from later decades. Particularly notable were coins with illustrious provenances-ex-Downing, Blaisdell, Robbie Brown, and others-tying this sale to the lineage of famous cabinets. The catalog's detailed descriptions, complete with notes on die states, provenances, and pedigree research, made it not only a sales tool but also a reference source for copper specialists. With its mix of rarity, scholarship, and community spirit, the 2000 EAC sale embodied the traditions of the club and provided lasting contributions to the study and enjoyment of early American copper.
