The 2007 Early American Coppers (EAC) Convention Sale, held April 28 in St. Louis and conducted by Chris McCawley and Bob Grellman, brought together an impressive mix of colonials, half cents, large cents, and related exonumia. The sale opened with colonial and token issues, including notable Fugios, New Jersey coppers, Talbot, Allum & Lee pieces, and a rare 1833 Liberia cent struck at the U.S. Mint for the American Colonization Society. A particularly rich selection of Hard Times tokens, Feuchtwanger cents, and unusual electrotype advertising tokens added depth to the offering. These lots reflected the EAC tradition of combining rare varieties with coins that illustrate history and die state scholarship, while also keeping the sale accessible to collectors of varied levels.

The strength of the catalog lay in its presentation of early American copper. Half cents featured important 1793 and 1794 varieties, including pieces struck over Talbot, Allum & Lee tokens and rare overdates like the 1802/0 and 1808/7. Large cents began with Chain and Wreath issues of 1793-both genuine and electrotype copies from Jules Reiver's collection-before moving through the 1794 Heads of '93 and into Draped Bust varieties, many with provenances to major collectors like John D. Wright, Jules Reiver, and R.S. Brown, Jr. The catalog also showcased fascinating mint errors, brockages, and double strikes, reinforcing the scholarly depth typical of an EAC sale. With its blend of rarity, provenance, and collector camaraderie, the 2007 auction became a memorable addition to the long tradition of EAC convention sales.
