1794 HEAD OF 1794 CENT, MS65 RED AND BROWN
THE FINEST SHELDON-49
EX OSWALD

1794 S-49 R2 MS65 Red & Brown PCGS, CAC Approved. Superb lustrous mint red fading to steel brown with mellowed mint color showing in the fields and protected areas on both sides. The surfaces are satiny and the eye appeal of this cent is spectacular. The only marks are an irregular nick in the field under the cap, a microscopic planchet flake over the end of the nose, and a tiny tick or punch on the leaf off the left top of the O in ONE. There are microscopic planchet flakes around UNITED (as struck) but the remainder of the planchet is smooth. E-MDS, Heck die state 2, Breen state I, with fine die clashmarks but no cracks. This is the plate coin for the variety in the 1991 Noyes reference and the obverse is plated in the 1979 Morley grading guide for 1794 cents. Graded MS65 Choice and finest known by 15 points in the Noyes census, his photo #21318. Graded MS62 and finest in the Bland census by 12 points. This cataloger's EAC grade is MS65. Another spectacular cent from the "St. Oswald" group of mint state cents. The attribution is noted on the PCGS Gold Shield label. PCGS population 1; none finer. 35610.65/26092871.
