Celebrated 1795 Jefferson Head Cent, Good 4

1795 1C Jefferson Head, Plain Good 4 PCGS. S-80, B-11b, Plain Edge, High R.5. The so-called Jefferson Head cents are private productions by John Harper who was hoping to land a contract for production of federal cents. These cent products were intended to be samples of his work, passed out to Congress in anticipation of a coinage contract that never materialized. Listed and numbered in Sheldon's reference, these cents are popular with all early cent collectors.
The sharpness of this piece seems to be quite a bit finer than the grade that PCGS has assigned, although both sides have prominent surface fissures, probably as made. Otherwise, the deep steel-brown surfaces are quite smooth with only microscopic granularity. EAC 4.(Registry values: P1)
