Description

1795 S-73, B-1 Cent, Good 6
The Hyphen Variety

1795 1C Lettered Edge Good 6 NGC. S-73, B-1, Low R.5. Our EAC Grade Good 6. Breen Die State I, with the a small die bulge below the ER in LIBERTY. Known as the Hyphen Variety and named for the constant-sized die chip that connects the R and T in LIBERTY. The sharpness is a few points finer with scattered marks on the olive-brown surfaces. A few trivial rim bruises are evident, with a green corrosion spot and a darker toning spot, both on the reverse. In his Large Cent Encyclopedia, Walter Breen suggested that there were "40-odd" survivors. The actual number is likely closer to 70 in all grades.
From The Adam Mervis Large Cent Collection.
