Description

High Grade S-78 1795 Large Cent

1795 1C Plain Edge XF 45. S-78, R.1. This lovely chestnut-brown example displays smooth surfaces and fantastic eye appeal. There is slight wear across the highpoints of the design, and microscopic corrosion is evident on the reverse with magnification. The obverse appears to have been lightly tooled in the field below the LIB in LIBERTY, but this is hardly noticeable and is mentioned only for accuracy. There are also what appear to be die polish lines on Liberty's cheek and in the right obverse field, although it is possible that these perhaps are a result of the piece having been slightly smoothed to remove other signs of microscopic porosity. Either way, the problems present on this piece are minor in nature, and none detract from its overall beauty. Early copper specialists will view this coin with interest as a high grade representative of the date and die variety.
